China
I was invited to Xiang Sha Wan, China, in December 2010 and January 2011, where I was one of a dozen American landscape photographers showing work as part of a festival of landscape photography. The dozen Americans’ exhibitions filled maybe 15% of a 100 meter diameter dome in the Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia. The other 85% was landscape work by Chinese photographers and a 450-seat auditorium, where awards were presented, along with Mongolian song and dance and even a synchronized tripod waving performance. The weather was cold (0 to minus 20 degrees F), the people were warm, and there was a lot to look at.
